The movie 21 Jump Street and the Beginning of a Career

From 1987 to 1990, fans heard about Johnny on the TV show 21 Jump Street. In the same year that the show ended, he got his big break when he was cast as Edward Scissorhands in a movie by Tim Burton. The two artists worked together for years, making movies like Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Johnny‘s personal life was always in the news, and he was engaged to Edward Scissorhands co-star and fellow Oscar nominee Winona Ryder. Depp asked her to be his girlfriend in the year 1990. But they couldn’t stay together. He was with the British model Kate Moss from the early 1990s until 1997.

In the late 1990s, he began dating the French singer Vanessa Paradis. After working with Tim Burton, he went on to star in movies like Finding Neverland, Public Enemies, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and, of course, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, where he has played Captain Jack Sparrow in five movies over ten years. But in November 2020, Johnny left the franchise. After a UK newspaper called him a “wife beater,” Johnny sued the paper for libel and lost.

But that was just the start of a court case that would last for years. Amber got a temporary restraining order against her ex in 2016, saying he had hurt her physically and verbally while they were together. After they divorced, Johnny and Amber said in a joint statement, “Our relationship was intensely passionate and sometimes volatile. But it was always held together by love.” No one has said the other side is lying to make money. No one was hurt physically or emotionally by design.” In 2019, the actor sued Amber for libel after she wrote an opinion piece for The Washington Post about leaving an abusive relationship. The case will go to court in 2022.
